As a fellow, you may enrol on master’s programmes or doctoral programmes and pursue any academic discipline or field of study that is consistent with the interests and goals of the International Fellowships Fund. The Fund currently works in twelve fields to strengthen democratic values, alleviate poverty and injustice, promote international cooperation, and advance human achievement. To ensure that fellows are drawn from diverse backgrounds, IFP actively seeks candidates from social groups and communities that lack systematic access to higher education.

Eligible candidates:As a candidate for the Ford International Fellowships Programme, you must comply
with the following requirements: You must be a resident of an eligible IFP country or
territory (currently: Brazil, Chile, China, Egypt, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Indonesia,
Kenya, Mexico, Mozambique, Nigeria, Palestinian Territories, Peru, Philippines,
Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, and Vietnam). You must demonstrate superior achievement in your undergraduate studies and hold a
baccalaureate degree or its equivalent. You must have substantial experience in
community service or development-related activities. You must possess leadership
potential evidenced by your employment and academic experience. You must
propose to pursue a post-baccalaureate degree that will directly enhance your
leadership capacity in a practical, policy, academic, or artistic discipline or field.
You must choose a field corresponding to one or more of the Foundation's areas of endeavour. You must present a plan specifying how you will apply your studies to
social problems or issues in your own country. You must commit yourself to
working on these issues following the fellowship period. You do NOT need
admission to a university to apply for the fellowship. Subjects must correspond
with IFP's areas of endeavour.


Grant information
Value and purpose of grant : The fellowships, which are granted for the duration of the programme (max. 3 yrs) cover the tuition fees plus the costs of international travel, living expenses, books, health insurance.
Extra facilities: Several funds are made available for different purposes such as professional enhancement, additional support for studying with a disability, etc.
application : Submit your application to the appropriate IFP International Partner in your country or region of residence. There are seventeen International Partners. They determine application deadlines and selection schedules in their region or country and administer the fellowship during the fellowship-period. Go to the IFP website for an overview of IFP International Partners including web addresses.
After the selection and needs assessment Nuffic acts as placement partner for IFP fellows considering studying in continental Europe. Nuffic provides the following services for the IFP International Partners
  • individual advice on study opportunities, placement and admission issues,
  • placement at up to three continental European universities,
  • general information provision regarding European higher education systems, admission requirements and available study programmes,
  • general information provision regarding study and living conditions, health and visa requirements in continental European countries,
  • ongoing support in case of emergency, health, study or legal problems.
Deadline : The deadline for fellowship applications differs per country.

Value and purpose of grant :  Grant provider : The funds for the scholarships come from the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship Fund, established by Utrecht University.Application procedure : It is not possible to apply for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship. The Selection Committee of the programme will select eligible candidates on the basis of the selection criteria mentioned above. Selected students are awarded a scholarship between 1,500 and 16,400 per year (Bachelor) or between 1,500 and 20,600 euro per year (Master). Students should be aware that the grant is not a full scholarship. It is necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance study and stay completely. As one of the requirements for being granted a residence permit in the Netherlands, students from abroad must prove to the IND (immigration and naturalisation office) that they have sufficient financial means. Grant award period : Selected students receive a scholarship for the duration of the degree programme, which is a maximum of two years for a Master's degree and three years for a Bachelor’s degree. Approximately 55 scholarships are awarded each year. The scholarship will only be renewed for the second (and third) year if the student is making satisfactory progress towards the degree.

Rotary Foundation Scholarships Program

The Rotary Foundation's oldest and best-known program, was founded in 1947. Since then, nearly 38,000 men and women from about 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices. Today it is the world's largest privately funded international scholarships program.

Eligible candidates: All applicants must be citizens of a country in which there are Rotary clubs.
The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries and geographical areas. The program sponsors several types of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies. While abroad, scholars serve as goodwill ambassadors to the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. Upon returning home, scholars share with Rotarians and others the experiences that led to a greater understanding of their host country.
Grant award period: 2011-2012
Closing date: For 2011-12 awards, club deadlines may be as early as 1 March 2010 or as late as 15 August 2010

Eligible candidates: mid-career professionals from the World Bank member countries, eligible to borrow; Between the ages of 25 and 45; At least 2, preferably 4 to 5, years of recent full-time professional work experience; University degree; Good health, good character
The Program does not support:- legal studies such as JD, LLM or SJD unless related to human rights, or environment.
- applicants for MBA, nor applicants for M.Phil. or Ph.D. candidates.
- applicants who already hold a graduate degree from an industrialized country.
- applicants who received their undergraduate degree from an industrialized country unless they spent three years in their home country or another developing country.

Grant information
Value and purpose of grant : The JJ/WBGSP scholarship provides annual awards to cover the cost of completing a master's degree or its equivalent. The amount of scholarship may vary depending upon the host country and the tuition charged by the host university. In recent years the annual value of a scholarship has averaged around US$30,000.
The scholarship provides benefits for the recipient only, covering:

  • economy class air travel between the home country and the host university at the start of the study program and one return journey following the end of the overall scholarship period. In addition to the ticket, scholars receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip; 
  • tuition and the cost of basic medical and accident insurance usually obtained through the university; 
  • a monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses, including books.
Grant award period : 1 year; provided that the academic program is longer than one year, it may be renewed for a second consecutive year or a portion thereof.

The Africa London Nagasaki (ALN) scholarship fund

About the scholarship

The ALN scholarship fund supports African scientists wishing to undertake a Master’s degree related to the control of infectious diseases in Africa.

The scholarship funds a candidate to undertake an MSc in a subject relevant to the control of infectious disease in Africa at either the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki, Japan or at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), London, UK. Both residential and distance learning MSc courses are available at LSHTM. Candidates offered a course at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki will be required to reside in Japan for the duration of the course. Read more about the ALN partners.

January 2011 Scholarships in University of Westminster, UK

The deadline for scholarship applications for January 2011 is 1 November 2010 unless otherwise specified.

Alumni Scholarships
These scholarships are gathered from income earned by the alumni affinity services. They are available to you if you are a graduate of any University of Westminster undergraduate degree and plan to proceed to a full-time Masters degree within the University.

Amount: £2,000 tuition fee waivers.

Eligibility: You must be a University of Westminster graduate progressing to a full-time Masters degree at the University.

Criteria: Academic excellence and financial need.

Full Fee Waiver Scholarships

Amount: Full tuition fee waivers.

Eligibility: You must be an international student and hold an offer for a full-time Masters degree.

Criteria: Academic excellence, development potential and financial need.

Half Fee Waiver Scholarships

Amount: 50% tuition fee waivers.

Eligibility: You must be an international student and hold an offer for a full-time Masters degree.

Criteria: Academic excellence, development potential and financial need.

MBA Scholarships

Amount: 50% tuition fee waivers.

Eligibility: You must hold an offer for the full or part-time MBA degree.

Criteria: Academic excellence, career progression and financial need. Preference will be given to you if you work in the voluntary or public sector.

Westminster Business School (WBS) Part-Time Scholarships

These scholarships are offered by Westminster Business School (WBS) to you if you are academically exceptional.

Amount: 50% tuition fee waivers.

Eligibility: You must hold an offer for any part-time Masters degree, excluding the MBA, within Westminster Business School.

Criteria: Academic excellence, career progression and financial need.

Deadline: 01 December 2010.

Westminster International Scholarships

These generous awards are aimed at fully funding you if you are from a developing country and will study a full-time Masters degree at the University. Particular preference will be given to you if you can demonstrate how the knowledge you acquire from your studies will aid the development of your own country.

Amount: Full tuition fee waivers, accommodation, living expenses and flights to and from London.

Eligibility: You must be an international student from a developing country and hold an offer for a full-time Masters degree.
